"Knowledge will help you make the right decisions in your life"
"My cousin Claudia brought me to a meeting, I've been coming to them since August."
Selena Joseph is fifteen years old, she is in her sophomore year at North Miami Senior High School, and she is the oldest child in her family, she has three brothers and three sisters.
"I have helped my mom to learn how to make better decisions about buying food, she told me, and because of what I have learned in the YOUTH L.E.A.D. meetings I have shown her that she has healthier options to choose from."
Selena wants her mother to learn to eat healthier because she is only 36 years old but already has diabetes and her dad who is 41 has high blood pressure.
"So what I do now after school is go to my grandmothers house, were I eat fruits, instead of doing what I used to do -- eat French fries. When I have my own family I am going to teach them to eat fruits and vegetables, because I want them to be healthy."
