"I like (Youth L.E.A.D.) because it has introduced me to new foods that I never tried before."
Terry Perman, an aspiring artist and senior at Miami Northwest Senior High School, got connected
to Youth L.E.A.D. while working on a community mural.
"I was doing a mural for the Miami Children’s Initiative, when (CEO of Youth L.E.A.D.) Erin came to the mural and asked me a few questions about it. She told me and a couple friends I was with, about Youth L.E.A.D. and asked if we wanted to participate."
Since then, Terry said he learned many new things from the program – his favorite has been trying new fruits and vegetables for the first time.
"I saw the raw forms of different vegetables, like spinach. I was also introduced to a new type of watermelon the size of a grapefruit."
Terry said that he has changed his eating habits, because of Youth L.E.A.D.’s health and nutrition education.
"This has opened my eyes to a new way of being," he added.
